About Me
Tanshaydar...
My name is Tansel Altınel; and I'm an ordinary guy.
At the moment:
I'm studying Computer Science at Bilkent University / Turkey.
I'm working at Kukla Interactive as a script writer.
I'm working at ETGi Grup as a part time system specialist.
Tansel is a unisex name and its meaning is related to light or about dawn. Tanshaydar is my nickname and consists of Tansel and Haydar. Haydar, written in Latin alphabet, means warrior in Arabic language. It was my first nickname ever, I had been using it for years till I started to use Tanshaydar as my nickname.
What the? "Bir delinin 'akıl' defteri" ?...
It's a Turkish phrase, and probably means something like Mind book of an insane. It won't mean anything to you, but it means a lot to me. Someone changed my life nine years ago, and he gave a name to my diary. Since then, I'm using this phrase for my personal diary-like things. This blog is some sort of diary for me, where I can share my thoughts with everyone.
Job, Work-Done, Interests...
I'm studying Computer Engineering; and I'm a person between a software engineer and a game designer.
Programming
I know programming languages like Java, C/C++, PHP, C#, JSP, Verilog, Lex, Yacc, HTML, CSS, Perl and Python; but I had experience with especially first two. Order is from the ones I know most to the ones I know least. I was a computer science contender when I was in high school. I got the chance to attend to the summer training program of TUBITAK*; but I couldn't get any medals, nor called to national team. Either way, I love software engineering, and I work hard to be a good engineer. Planning, designing and implementation stages are new thrills for me every single time. Object Oriented and Event-Driven programming is my life style.
I have some 2D games written in Java like Space Bomber and Troll Hunter.
I worked on a government project named MYK(Occupational Sufficiency Department) at where I did my first internship, Bor Software. I worked with PHP and Joomla Framework. I have a great and long experience with Joomla Framework. (I'm working with it since its 1.0.2 version.)
I have developed an award-winning mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent, White Night, which I developed all by myself with using AngelScript and HPL2 editor tools.
English... Translations?
English is not my main language. I went to preparation school in Bilkent University and since then, I worked hard to improve my English. I've made Turkish translation packs to games like Silent Hill series, Penumbra series and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Moreover, I worked on Dear Esther translation.
Game Development
I've made White Night, which was developed by me as a total conversion mod for Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I can't say it's critically acclaimed, but I've got a great reaction and high ratings.
I'm working at Kukla Interactive as a scenarist.
Authorship
I've got plenty of awards on essays and poetry since elementary school. I've got a state degree, and some other degrees in fan-fiction competitions. I still continue to write stories and scenarios.
Miscellaneous
I got some awards in various math contests and I've been a finalist in TUBITAK's national biology project contest.
Well, that's not my resume. It was just, I got some complaints like "we couldn't find who are you and what are you doing in your personal website".
Generally, aside from being a student and trying to be a software engineer, I'm a game designer. I design story-oriented games. I believe games are a better than movies to tell a story, but lesser than books. I agree with Dan Pinchbeck* and I strongly disagree with Will Wright. I think he is retarded.
I LOVE reading books. If I were to write down my favorite authors, this place would give a buffer overflow error. Lovecraft is more than a favorite though.
As a Result...
I'm a stranger and most likely we will never meet in real life. So, I'm surprised you've been reading up to this point. I'm an ordinary guy with extra-ordinary taste. You wouldn't recognize me if you saw me on the street. Nevertheless I've opened a part of my world to you, and you've become my guest here. I hope you are satisfied with my hospitality.
If you want to know more about me, you can read my posts. I wager you don't know Turkish, so I'll try to post in English more often.
If you are to analyze my character, you can ask Nostradamus.
